Overview
Vice City is the beating heart of GTA 6 — a vast, modern metropolis based on Miami, returned to the franchise for the first time since 2006’s Vice City Stories. Confirmed in both trailers, it serves as the primary urban setting within the wider state of Leonida.

Real-World Inspiration
Vice City is a fictionalized Miami: the art-deco hotels, the pastel-and-neon skyline, the beachfront boulevards, the swampy fringes, and the Latin cultural backbone all map directly onto real Miami and South Florida. The 2026 version trades the 1980s pastiche of the original for a present-day, hyper-detailed recreation.
What’s Different From 2002
The 2002 GTA: Vice City was a compact, 1980s-soaked love letter to Miami Vice and Scarface. The GTA 6 version is dramatically larger, modern, and built on current-generation fidelity — a true contemporary city rather than a period piece. Where the original was a theme park of pastel nostalgia, the new Vice City aims to be a living city.
Scale
Vice City is one component of a map reportedly 2.5× the size of GTA V’s San Andreas — which itself already contained the city of Los Santos. Read our GTA 6 map size analysis for the full breakdown.
What We Track On This Page
This entry separates three layers of evidence:
| Layer | Examples | How We Treat It |
|---|---|---|
| Official fact | Vice City, Leonida, Jason and Lucia, PS5/Xbox launch | Listed as confirmed. |
| Visual evidence | Beachfront roads, nightlife districts, rural edges, Keys-style routes | Treated as trailer/screenshot observation. |
| Community mapping | Unofficial neighborhood names, scale estimates, road guesses | Treated as unconfirmed until Rockstar publishes the map. |
Why It Matters
Vice City is arguably the most beloved setting in GTA history. Bringing it back — modernized, massive, and photoreal — is the single biggest draw of GTA 6 for longtime fans. It’s the setting the community has asked for across three console generations.
